The Best Indie Labels


SUP-POP: The oldest and still one of the best, Nirvana's first label, now home of The Shins, The Postal Service and Jeremy Engik.


MATADOR: Home of Pretty Girls Make Graves, Interpol and The New Pornographers.


RUBRIC: Rock, Alt-Country, Folk...and home of Gogol Bordello, a great band.


HUSH: Small, but with awesome talent, this was The Decemberists first label, now home to Blanket Musik and Bobby Birdman.


BLOODSHOT: Home of "Insurgent Country" stars like Neko case, Old 97's and Alejandro Escovedo.


MERGE: The Indie from North Carolina, owners of Superchunk, Neutral Milk Hotel and the Magnetic Fields.


BARSUK: Home of John Vanderslice and the Long Winters.


PARASOL: Also and amazing online store, they put out amazing label samplers and its home to The Possibilities and Folksongs for the Afterlife.

KILL ROCK STARS: Very large mainly known for putting out most of Elliot Smith's records, now home to The Decemberists and the brilliant Deerhoof.



TOPSPIN MEDIA: Ok, this is not a label persay, but these guys are changing the way the game is played by releasing all albums online and on digital format with a very cool launching platform technology . Some of the Artists using Topspin's propietary technology are David Byrne and Metric.
